The Palmetto Grand Lodge was born in 1869 under the authority of the Most Worshipful National Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Ancient York Rite Masons, Prince Hall Origin, National Compact, USA.
Since its inception the Palmetto Grand Lodge has established itself as a pillar of South Carolina's Masonic community. Supporting a number of charities and worthy causes such as; The Courageous Kidz, Hope Academy, Sickle Cell Anemia, Shriner's Hospitals and The Ronald McDonald House just to name a few.

Internally the Grand Lodge expanded and grew. Its statewide membership numbers in the thousands. At the Departmental level, the Grand Lodge grew to include the Royal Arch, Knights Templar, Consistory, Shriners, Council of Deliberation, Order of the Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, Crusaders,
